Lime was a disco band from Montreal who formed in 1979. The group was originally composed of married couple Denis and Denyse LePage. As a teenager, Denis performed in the band the Persuaders. By the mid-1970s he had formed the jazz-fusion act Le Pouls with then-wife Denyse LePage, a singer-songwriter in her own right. In 1979, Denis LePage wrote, arranged, and released an instrumental 12″ single vinyl record called “The Break” under the name Kat Mandu. It appeared first on Unidisc Records. The single was successful and peaked at number three on Billboard’s Disco chart.

In 1981, Lime released their debut single titled “Your Love”.

“Your Love” is a song commenting on a relationship where it can be said “Your love is never changing;” And “Your love is always lasting.” The song recalls the night the pair first met: “I’ll always remember that night, you were so out of sight.”

“Your Love” climbed to #4 in Miami, and #6 in Montreal, and #18 in New York City. Internationally, it climbed to #9 in the Netherlands.

1982 saw the release of Lime’s second album Lime II supported by the single “Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonight”, which reached #6 on the Billboard Dance Chart. In the summer of 1983, “Guilty” cracked the Top Ten in Sherbrooke and reached #12 in Montreal. While in the winter of 1983-84, “Angel Eyes” was a Top 15 hit in Sherbrooke. They had a Top 30 hit in Montreal in the fall of 1984 titled “My Love”. And in 1985, “Unexpected Lovers” reached #3 in Miami. Lime’s last notable regional hit was “Cutie Pie” in 1988 which peaked at #3 in Boston.

Denis and Denyse separated personally around 1989. But they continued working together musically until about 1996. Denis later released material under the Lime name (sometimes with other vocalists). Around the early 2010s, Denis LePage began to publicly identify as a woman, taking the name Nini Nobless and recording new material. The music struggled to find an audience for a variety of reasons. Part of this was due to an interest in an 80s disco sound in the 2010s having faded, and the other was the singer’s new appearance. However, the vocals were the same on stage.

Denis LePage/Nini Nobless died in September 2023. Francis Cucuzzella, who manages artist relations at Unidisc, said there was a documentary on Lime being made in cooperation with the late LePage. But with the passing of the Lime icon, the unfinished project went into limbo.
